Holiday Gift Guide for the Freelancer

If you are a last minute holiday gift shopper like we are (thank you overnight shipping!), we put together a no-fail gift guide for the independent contractor techie in your life.  Whether new to the lifestyle or a seasoned pro, these gifts are sure to please.

Bluetooth laser keyboard: We love any gadget that can streamline the amount of products we have to carry around in our bags, especially as contractors are always on the go for work. A bluetooth keyboard turns any phone or tablet into a lean, mean freelancing machine giving you the flexibility to work from anywhere.

Technical Training and Certification: Do you know a contractor who could benefit from a few hours spent honing their craft or skill set? Why not help them reach this goal by gifting them training classes. If they are looking for technical training check out: Oracle, Cisco and Citrix. For management and organizational training check out: General Assembly.

Spotify/Pandora/Rdio membership: Any independent consultant could use heads down time to power through their to-do list and we think  part of closing out the distractions is by putting in your headphones and listening to your favorite playlist. This is why giving the gift of music is so great for anyone’s productivity.

Storage device: There are so many options in today’s market when it comes to external storage units, however we like the LaCie Christofle Sphere because it gets the job done while also looking like a pretty cool desk accessory.

3-D printer: Who says gifts have to be practical? We don’t and that’s why we think unwrapping a 3-D printer would be pretty awesome. Check out Printbot’s version for any independent contractor who likes to assemble their own toys.

Pioneer AppRadio 4: Consider a radio update for the seasoned road warrior and the Pioneer AppRadio has many cool features including touchscreen controls, screen mirroring and compatibility with many different phone models including Apple’s CarPlay which allows voice activated Siri to direct texts, music and calls.

Smart watch: If your independent consultant likes to be ahead of the trend, consider hooking them up with a smart watch. While, there are a lot of options out there when it comes to smart watches (consider device compatibility and design features) we like the under $100 Pebble smart watch.

Home office organization systems: If you spend anytime working from your home office, it can be a challenge to stay organized. Our trick is to invest in a few low cost options like cable organizers, magnetic wall pockets, and charging stations to make sure we have no excuse for our cluttered ways.
